DEP is not active by default for all the programs in Vista b

I used Windows XP SP2 for 2 yeas with DEP active *for all the programs* and not *only for the system files* and I didn't find any incompatibility. Why in Vista Beta2 the DEP is not active for all programs by default? Many users don't care about security and so they don't know about this technology and they will never configure the DEP and so I think Microsoft should enabled it by default for all the programs.

Because it's a processor specific thing - can't be turned on if there's no support for it.

That's not true. You can enabled the software DEP for all the binaries also if you don't have hardware CPU and so you have additional checks on exception handling mechanisms in Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2mempr.mspx
